The moment I heard that the poetry bookstore had just opened in Sinchon, I decided to visit there as soon as possible. In a world where everything including bookstores goes into a franchise, it is almost always nice to have more independent businesses.
wit n cynical opened on 7th of June, 2016. The bookstore is located on the 3rd floor of the building opposite Sinchon train station.
wit n cynical specializes in poetry books but they also have novels, art books, and magazines.
Some books were signed by its author!
There are stylish designer stationery goods and eco-friendly bags too.
There is a cafe right next to the bookstore. So, you can enjoy both coffee and the book after you buy one. When I visited, a small concert was being prepared in the cafe. They also regularly host poetry readings by poets and writers. Would be wonderful to hear poets read with beautiful music and good coffee.
If you are into music, you can check out a record shop, Frente!
I bought this book written by Eunseon Baek (백은선).
Unfortunately most books here are written in Korean. However, at least I, as a bibliophilia, don’t really mind which language it is written in the books. Of course, it matters, but I love books and bookstores themselves and as long as the place is nice and there are books, to me, it is still worth visiting.
It has been just one month since wit n cynical opened. I hope this place will be a kind of gallery of poetry books. It would be so great to have that kind of place in my hometown, Seoul.
