Used Book Store can be Fancy

I recently visited two famous used bookstores, ‘Aladin’ and ‘YES24’. I often go to the used book store to sell my old books or buy some used books. I would like to let you know about Korean used book stores in Korea because they are really cool!!!

‘Aladin’ and ‘YES24’, both companies have their branch used book store in many downtown areas in Seoul. You don’t have to go to Itaewon, where many foreigners live, just to find English books. In Aladin or YES24, it is easier to find popular books which were best-selling novels. Both bookstores have an English book section. Aladin have many kinds of books, on the other hand, YES24 have books in better condition. You could find the book you are looking for at the variety sections in Aladin book store. If you prefer a nice book as good as new, then YES24 is a good shop for you. Guessing from its pristine condition and the high price of some books, YES24 seems to buy new books to stock up its new stores. (YES24 has been opening new used book stores since last year.)

The two book stores also buy used books. It is a good news for you when you need to sell your old book due to moving or housecleaning. The sad thing is that they won’t buy the old book at a good price. An old book is priced depending on the condition of the book. They will not take the book when they have too much stock of it. You can check how much they will pay for the book by putting the ISBN of the book on their websites. I think it would be better to use Chrome browser for translating its Korean website into English. Most of the time, a book is priced at one-thenth of its original price. But I still head to the used book store to sell my old book. As for me, I sell my old books even at a very low price like almost 1000 won. I hope somebody will find my book useful. I don’t want to be sorry for a tree producing the paper for the book. And I’d like to buy new old books with the money from selling my old books.

The stores handle CDs, DVDs and stationery. Many kinds of stationeries are a feast for the eyes. The stationery stuff has been changing every season. If you find something to your liking, don’t miss out.

The used book stores are the great place to browse books having a cup of coffee. Every book stacks are open. You can sit down and relax for a while in the chair with an interesting book charging your phone or the laptop on the desk. Couldn’t be better!

I would like to recommend using Chrome browser for translating its Korean website into English.

    Hello 🙂
Thank you for writing such informative and different side of Seoul. We are always trying to see if we can do non-touristy things in places we visit and your blog was perfect for that research 🙂
I was wondering just one thing, would I be able to buy English translations of Korean authors in these bookstores? Authors like: Hwang Sok Young and Ahn Do-Hyeon?
We are visiting from California and going to Mumbai (India) and we decided to stop over at South Korea and explore this fabulous country 🙂

      Hi Shayu!
Thanks for saying so! It is very interesting that you are looking for Korea novels in English.

It would be difficult to find the kind of book you are looking for in the second hand book store I posted. I’d like to recommend you to visit bigger book stores like Kyobo book store. It is more stocked with English translations of Korean books.

I tried to search some books of the authors you said. The books of Hwang Sok Young (Hwang Sok-yong) seem to be only sold in online shops. But you can visit and buy the book of poems by Ahn Do-Hyeon (Ahn Do-hyun) at Kyobo book store. Kyobo book stores’ website currently shows me have the books in stock at Gangnam and Gwanghwamun branchs. I hope you will find nice books you like and have a wonderful time in Seoul.
