Seoul is a metropolitan city and it is absolutely breathtaking to overlook this huge city from up on high. The most well known view point of Seoul is N Seoul Tower.
N Seoul Tower is a great place, of course. However, I personally prefer Naksan Park when it comes to night views. It is easier to visit and free to visit. If you decide to check out Naksan Park, don’t forget to bring a camera with you (or any smartphone would still work 🙂 ) to take photos of a magnificent view of Seoul.
How to Get to Naksan Park
From Hyehwa Station, please use the Exit 2 and it will take about 10 minutes on foot to arrive at the entrance of the park.
On Google Maps, I was not able to get the direction from Hyehwa Station to Naksan Park, so I used Naver Map instead. The only problem is Naver Map does not support English. 🙁 But, I think this image would still be helpful!
Naksan Park
Naksan is a small mountain which is just over 100 m high, but surprisingly, it offers a fantastic view over Seoul. The name of the mountain, Naksan, comes from two Korean words “Nakta” and “San” which mean “camel” and “mountain” respectively. This “Camel Mountain”, as you can guess now, resembles camel humps.
Seoul Fortress Wall
Naksan Park is a part of Seoul Fortress Wall Footpath. Naksan Mounatain Trail stretches 2 km from Hyehwamun Gate to Heunginjimun Gate. It is a relatively easy walking trail and it takes about 1 hour to complete the course.
This is the entrance of the park.
There is a mini mart where you can buy a bottle of water or some snacks which you might need on the way up.
As you can see from the picture below, it’s a fairly gentle climb to the top.
This is the Seoul City Wall.
Have you seen the movie La La Land? Some Koreans say Naksan Park is a Korean version of La La Land. So, they call “Naksan Park” “Naksan Land (낙산랜드)”. 😀
After the sunset, the wall is illuminated with hundreds of lights.
You can see N Seoul Tower from Naksan Park. 😉
Nansan Park is a popular site for couples. If you have a significant other, you should bring him or her to this place at night. You two will be in an unforgettable romantic mood.
