Ikseondong Hanok Village in 2016

There were not many people know Ikseondong when I first got to know this place in 2016. Ikseondong had a unique atmosphere of the place where past and present meet. I even felt a little bit proud of discovering the hip place, and couldn’t wait to tell someone about its coolness. I visited there with new companions each time so that I would show off this hip place to them all. I was into the atmosphere of Ikseondong.

Whenever I visited, I found a new fancy restaurant or cafe opened. Ikseondong was becoming fancy new place and popular soon. It became famous eventually and many parts in alleys had changed.

While I was happy with many people knows this place, It seemed it transformed too fast that it lost its own special atmosphere which attracted me. Now it becomes completely one of the hip places, even the past part remains only in distinctive roof tiles of the surrounding hanok.

Of course still Ikseondong has its young and hip attractiveness, but the vibes of old Ikseondong I was in love with disappeared. I miss the peaceful moment of the quite hanok residential area.

I’d like to share the special memories to me with you. There were old and decrepit hanoks, old-fashioned restaurants for neighborhood, old men playing the game of Baduk (Go) under the shade of the tree and many local stores for resident like a laundry shop.

I hope you feel its old atmosphere through my blog post with me.
