Haneul Park

World Cup Park consists of four sections. This site, Haneul Park (Sky Park), is one of those sections. I think the most beautiful season to visit here is autumn. People feel the autumn vibes walking and taking pictures in reed beds. Haneul Park is placed on a hill top, like its name. You should climb up 291 stairs or use the electric shuttle, called maengkong-I cha(맹꽁이차), to the sky park. I love to see brown autumn reeds and cosmos bipinnatus flowers. Cosmos is a typical Autumn flower in Korea. I can feel autumn has arrived when I see cosmos flowers swaying in the breeze.

Those pictures were taken before COVID-19. I really miss the days I could smell autumn in the air without a face mask.

The sculpture’s name is ‘A bowl of sky’.
Looking at it from a distance, you can see the sky in the big bowl.

“The site of World Cup Park was, once upon a time, an island in Hangang filled with orchids and gromwells, called ‘Nanjido’. The island was an ecological treasure with numerous wild flowers and migratory birds. However, in 1987 the Seoul City turned the island into a landfill site, and for 15 years it became the largest garbage mount in the world holding about 140 million tons of garbage rising 98 meters above the sea level. It was even called as an island with three abundant things: files, dusts and stench. It became barren wasteland filled with methane gas and landfill leachate. Landfill operations were terminated in 1993 and the site was stabilized since 1996, and renovation projects were started to improve residential environment in surrounding Sangam-dong. In November 2000, a park was begun to construct, which was terminated in May 2002. Also in 2002, it was decided to build Seoul World Cup Stadium on the site.”

Looks enchanting! Autumn colors and sky are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi, So I think we polish people really need some democratic support to retake Lwow now and some areas east of that city because it seems important to have NATO democracy there. I know that Southkorea has nice economy and political system. If you can support me/us, please do.
