Cheonggyecheon Stream

Cheonggyecheon (청계천) is about 11 km (7 miles) long stream in the heart of Seoul. It is a popular place for both locals and tourists. I prefer walking along the stream at night rather than strolling around during the day.

Tips for Enjoying Cheonggyecheon

  1. Picnic

Bring food and drink and enjoy a kind of picnic feeling with the sound of a trickling stream. Drinking of alcohol in public places is allowed in Korea, so you can have beer or soju if you want.

  1. Walking Tour

There is a walking tour which takes about 3 hours. Organized programs(Inquiries: +82-2-397-5908) are offered in English, Japanese and Chinese. However, you can create your own routes and walk along just as much as you feel like.

  1. Seoul Lantern Festival

Since 2009, Seoul Lantern Festival has been held every November. Visitors can enjoy hundreds of remarkable lanterns for free. In 2015 the festival lasted for 17 days. The 2016 schedule has not been announced yet, but the theme of this year has been decided as  “Illuminated Seoul Tour.” I am not sure if I will be in Seoul this November, but if I am in Seoul, I will surely check the festival which would be a good opportunity for nice pictures as well.
